Jobs that lead to a Pharmaceutical Marketing career
The Canadian Pharmaceutical Marketing (CPM) journal lists job movements within the industry. Granted this is only a small sample of the Canadian industry, it provides good insight into which jobs are typical entry positions prior to getting into a marketing (Product Management) role. The analysis is based on all 2007 CPM issues.
Almost 1/2 of the candidates who moved into an Associate Product Management role came from a Territory Manager (Sales rep), position.
Almost 1/2 of the people who moved into a Product Management role (more senior than Associate Product Manager), were already in some kind of Product Management role. The review of the career moves identified that Product Managers move from one brand to another, often within the same company, and sometimes moving to other companies. Oftentimes, Product Managers who have proven themselves with a smaller brand get reassigned to a larger brand or a new product launch, both of which require stronger strategic skills.
